This is from the correspondence I had with Mike Cummings at Chromix.
I'm running 10.3.8 on a G5.
Usually this problem is caused by one of two things: Either Norton
Utilities is installed on your system, or there is a permissions
problem. So if you have Norton Utilities, uninstall it, and also use
the Disk Utility to repair permissions on your system. Then let me
know if the problem went away.

Hi Mike,
I repaired permissions, but I haven't removed Norton Antivirus, as I'm
reluctant to do so, and I'm still not able to graph any of the
profiles. When you suggested removing Norton Utilities, did you also
mean
Norton Antivirus?
Thanks,
Pat
Dear Pat:
Yes, Norton Antivirus is likely to be the problem. For what it's worth,
I never run an antivirus program on any of my Macs, nor do we on any in
our office and we have had no problems. Viruses just aren't a problem
for Macs like they are for Windows (although Norton AV will of course
warn you that instant doom will result from its removal!). In fact,
there aren't any OS X viruses at all. Norton AV, in my opinion, is
worse for your system than any of the very few Mac viruses that exist.
What do you think?
Regards,
Mike Cummings
