Dear Michael,
I am guessing here, but it seems to me very likely that there is something
wrong at operating system level with your Mac. I myself have owned and used
ColorThink for quite a while now (currently, in Mac OS 10.3.8), and I use it
without trouble. Occasionally it does crash, but very seldom.
I would suggest that there are two possibilities worth looking into in your
situation:
1) First thing I would do would be a thorough system-level maintenance
routine, one that runs the 3 "cron" scripts (daily, weekly, monthly),
reprebinds your whole system, deletes cache files, updates your "whatis" and
"locate" databases, and finally repairs all your permissions. My personal
recommendation is a utility called Cocktail, which you can download at
<http://www.macosxcocktail.com/download.html>. It is shareware, and, in my
own humble opinion, worth every penny of its price. Also, for good tips on
how to take care of Mac OS X regularly, you can read an excellent MacWorld
article from the February 2005 issue, titled "Prevent Mac Disasters," at
this URL:
<http://www.macworld.com/2005/01/features/preventmacdisasters/index.php>
2) If, after running the maintenance routines available in Cocktail, your
copy of ColorThink still crashes, then you have to look at the possibility
that your operating system itself was not installed properly, or lacks a
file (or several files) without which it cannot run properly. At that point
I would try a "clean install" of Mac OS X. See more info on installing Mac
OS X at this Apple URL: <http://www.apple.com/support/panther/install>.
Good luck.
