Not exactly - you're trying NOT to "throw away" ANYTHING along the way
to final output, you're trying to maintain as much useable information
as you possibly can, then make that "fit" the chosen output device - in
the most optimum manner - at the last possible opportunity, i.e. just
before printing.
Nothing gets "thrown away" unless your workflow "clips" unprintable
colors, which you should minimize anyway and try to avoid as much as
possible.
