This is quite neat. I finally understand what you just said to the other
poster. If one always converted to a smaller space, such as the space of
one's monitor, then the range of colors you have to work with is
unnecessarily restricted. There is no reason to restrict yourself until
you are ready to go to the final output device, at which point one must
throw away the colors the device can't reproduce. Correct? I may get
this in my head after all.
Not exactly - you're trying NOT to "throw away" ANYTHING along the way to
final output, you're trying to maintain as much useable information as you
possibly can, then make that "fit" the chosen output device - in the most
optimum manner - at the last possible opportunity, i.e. just before printing.
Nothing gets "thrown away" unless your workflow "clips" unprintable
colors, which you should minimize anyway and try to avoid as much as possible.
Indeed. I understand now, in fact I understood better than my post made it
sound. You want to keep as much information as possible, so that the final
device can squeeze in as much of the range of colors into the range of
colors that it can reproduce. Got ya.
