I've profiled the Roland HiFi colour sets and compared them to high end
Epson profile gamuts. The former was profiled as n-channel, the latter
(a 2100 I believe) as CMYK. As I am currently at the CeBIT show in
Germany I don't have the profiles in question at hand unfortunately.
That said, my recollection is that the shapes of the two gamuts were
similar in so far as their general shapes were the famaliar printer
shape.
However being more exact, as you would expect the faces of the Roland
gamut protruded out further in those areas where the HiFi inks expanded
the gamut, such as oranges and reds etc. The size of the Roland gamut
was significantly larger than that of the Epson. In that sense, assuming
the HiFi inks are well formulated, the gamut shape should be different
and the size larger, when compared to an equivalent CMYK(cmyk) printer.
If not then you may wish to look for a different printer driver or
RIP...
Regards
Steve
