I'm working with at friend to test some different printer profiling
software/hardware combinations.
We recently created some test printer profiles using BasicColor 3C
software with a Eye1 UV.
The profiles look "similar" to profiles we created with the Spectrocam
UV and a different software packagesome time ago.
When inspected in ColorThink, the shape of the profiles is very similar,
the newer being slightly larger, however
following the outline of the older profile precisely with no abrupt
deviations, however if you are to examine
the neutral rendering curves there is a difference.
If I load an image in Photoshop CS and apply proof set up to soft proof
the image, and switch back and forth
between the old profile and the new with a full color image on screen,
very little shift is seen. Now take an almost
neutral (grey) image, and when the old profile is used it looks pretty
good, but when the new profile is used there
is an unusual banding effect where a green and magenta band is
generated in a compeltely neutral area....????
This banding typically takes place in a area where there is a
relatively quick light to dark transition.
I'm trying to determine if this is a software issue or hardware or both?
