We're moving to a new building soon, and the color room will be painted
neutral gray this time. The mixing recipes I could find on the web all use
US paints though, unavailable over here in the Netherlands.
Any pointers on how to easily obtain the correct color with stuff I can get
over here? A Lab value of the proper color would also help, so I could check
test patches with our Eyeone.
You really want a spectral match, so L*a*b* is not sufficient
(e.g. a smooth spectral grey will be better than a bumpy
neutral.)
The best solution is simply to take a Macbeth ColorChecker chart
to a paint store, and get them to match the N8 or N6.5 neutral square
using a paint matching computer (which are very common now in Australia,
and I would presume also in other countries as well). You might want
to make sure the staff take some care not to damage the chart in
the process of course ! These systems generally use a spectral paint
matching algorithm, and you can check the results by comparing the
spectrum of the resulting paint to the Macbeth square using a normal spectro.
See <http://www.colourspec.com.au/page26.html> for an example of the
type of result one would expect for paint systems available in Australia.
Perhaps you might report back on the equivalent results for the Netherlands ?
