The DTP41 will read single patches. You need software that takes a reading without turning the strip motor on. Xrite has a tool GraphDTP41 (although you may have to ask them for it), and argyll/printspot will do a similar thing. [I made up a paper template to locate the instrument over a particular spot to make it easier to do spot readings.]
