Recalibrating LCDs

What is the current thought on recalibrating LCDs? A client asked me to justify the need to recalibrate LCD displays, understanding that CRTS fade, but thinking that LCDs remain constant. My explanation is that the backlight tends to fade. What the consensus on this?
