You can calibrate to a specific correlated color temperature like
6500K, but not to a specific spectrum.

Ah, now I understand. Calibration products offer both options
sometimes, just because some users know D50/D65 and are looking for
that. A viewing booth often is advertised as a D50 viewing booth, even
when no viewing booth has a real D50 spectrum, but only offers a light
which is close to 5000K CCT.

I'm pretty sure that choosing D50 or 5000K will make no difference at
all.

I understand your opinion now, although I doubt that the different
options Dxx vs. xxxxK will make any difference, because you "just" can
alter the RGB gain of a CRT or alter the internal LUT values of a flat
panel display.
