Epson's Colorbase linearisation or calibration could give a

The new printers are better with respect to linear behavior but ColorBase
really doesn't play a role. It's sole job is to make multiple Epson's work
well with a single profile. So if you have just one 2400, one 4800 etc, you
don't need ColorBase.
Right, it could be the sole reason why it was created. I make
one change to your line "It's sole job is to make multiple
Epson's work well with a single "Epson" profile." That's how
Epson phrases it. Which means to me that with a 9800 in my
shop and another 9800 in another shop, both using the same
Epson profile + media there still could be a color difference
between the two that will disappear when we both use
Colorbase. The same calibration done on both printers with
Epson media and then using the same paper settings but a third
party paper and profiling both systems with the same profile
creator should result in a similar profile and similar print
results. The same Colorbase calibrations done after 6 months
on both printers with the same Epson paper batch should
extend the life of the custom profiles like it does with the
Epson profiles. With one unknown: the changes between the
third party paper batches. It may not be intended that way but
I do not see why it wouldn't work. If the linear behaviour of
the 9800s is already better, the calibration (done correctly)
can only add to consistency between printers and in time. If
Colorbase doesn't add to that then I wonder what it does in
the task it was intended for.
