Basically your idea is correct: Calibrate on one machine and generate a
profile. Then switch to the other machine and just profile.
However some comments and suggestions:
If you are 100% sure it is the KVM switch that is blocking DDC/CI, then why
not use the dual input feature of the monitor to do the switching, and use
the KVM just for keyboard/mouse if necessary? i.e. Connect the Mac to video
Input 1 using a DVI cable, and the PC to Input 2 using a DVI cable, then
just press the "Select" button to switch video between machines.
[FYI - If the KVM is blocking DDC/CI, it will be blocking it for all
applications, not just SpectraView]
Are you using analog or DVI-D video? I would highly recommend using
digital. With analog you may run into subtle issues because of differences
in the video levels between the two machines.
The monitor will allow you to have different color presets for each input,
and for each resolution/video timing. However SpectraView uses a common
"programmable" preset in the monitor to store the calibrated settings,
which will be overwritten if you calibrate on one machine and then another.
So you need to make sure that both video inputs (if you ditch the KVM), or
switched video (if you keep the KVM) are set to use the "Programmable"
color mode and gamma setting using the monitor's OSD.
Another alternative: If you are using DVI-D, and you are sure that there no
other applications are applying any kind of corrections to the video card
LUTs, then the ICC profile should be valid on both machines (as long as
both inputs are set to use the same color preset). You could just copy it
across between machines and manually install it. However I do not recommend
you try this if you are using analog video.

I just received SpectraView II to calibrate and profile an NEC 1980SXi. SV
II uses DDC communication with the monitor and calibrates by adjusting the
monitor LUT while leaving the video card LUT in a linear state.
What I want to do is share this display between a Mac and PC with my KVM
switch. Unfortunately my KVM breaks the DDC communication between SV II and
the display on both platforms (Interestingly ColorEyes allows DDC with this
KVM).
I can plug the display directly into the Mac of course and calibrate as well
as build a profile. SO...Since A) SV II is adjusting the monitor's internal
LUT and not the video card, and B) SV II allows you to generate a profile
without calibrating, can I calibrate and profile on the Mac then switch to
the PC and simply profile the existing calibration (done on the Mac)? Will
both profiles be equally valid on their respective platforms? The NEC tech I
asked said the internal state of the monitor remains unchanged when
switching between computers via a KVM so to me that says all I need to do is
let the PC record this calibrated state, ie build a profile. The upshot for
me is that SV II can generate an ICC profile without DDC communication so
future calibrations would require me crawling behind only one computer.
Before I go down the rabbitt hole and spend hours obsessing over this can
anyone tell me if this will be an exercise in futility, for reasons beyond
my undersanding? Thanks
