From Monaco's release notes:
"If you are using version 4 profiles, please make sure that you
switch your
entire workflow to version 4. Mixing version 2 and version 4
profiles within
the same workflow may produce unwanted results."
I will let X-Rite comment on this directly. However, from what I've
seen of v2 CMM's that fail to reject v4 profiles, bad things can
happen and because of that, the disclaimer above is compatible with
obviating the potential for bad things to happen due to a naughty CMM.
I'm not aware of any problem with using v2 sources with v4
destinations with a well behaved v4 CMM. If that were the case, v4
CMM's should be mandated to disallow v2>v4 conversions, but at the
present time that isn't the case. I've run quite a few v2>v4
conversions with a v4 CMM and in most instances find very little
difference compared to using a v2 destination profile, let alone
explosively bad results.
