You would be best advised to ask these questions in the Yahoo Digital B&W
The Print list. In brief, yes you can profile Epson Adv B&W with QTR Create
ICC. It will create an ICC profile which profiles and manages luminance
only for the PCS->Printer (ie output) leg and both luminance and hue for the
Printer->PCS (ie soft proof) leg. It can profile any B&W printing system -
Quadtone RIP, IJC/OPM, Epson Black Only etc etc. The hue management is left
to the tint picker in the case of Epson Adv B&W and to the curve selection
process with QTR. Re favourite settings for Epson Adv B&W these were
discussed very recently on the list. In general, don't try to manage
luminance with the driver (leave the shadow, highlight etc settings at their
default and use "darker") and instead manage this in PS in a conventional
fashion. QTR Create ICC will manage the dynamic range compression. Re
toning, you can't tone with just the three black inks and they will produce
a warm tone. So unless you want just one hue then you will have to
introduce the coloured inks. The Epson driver unfortunately uses yellow ink
more than necessary but is extremely convenient and easy to use. Otherwise
you can use QTR and write your own ink curves to avoid the weaker yellow ink
(except for sepia). You have an EyeOne Photo and so doing the QTR ICC
profiles is easy. The module only costs $50 - it's a steal.
Cheers
