Yes, but do these profiles correspond to current north american inksets and
print conditions?
Roger Breton
Hi,
no these profiles are based on the ISO 12647-2:2004 standards.
And these standards are (also) based on the ISO 2846-1 standard for offset
inks.
Gracol and SWOP indicate that their standards are based on ISO 2846,
however, most printers (in the US) don't know to what standard their inks
comply.
The larger printers, seem to have enough knowledge and know what kind of
inks to order.
Perhaps the Canadian printers buy ink from suppliers who sell inks based on
ISO 2846-1 too.
Roger could you investigate that?
Are there other Canadians lurking on this list? What do they think? What do
their printers use?
Fogra27, 28, 29, 30 etc. is not a European standard. Fogra is based in
Europe, yes.
But there is no European standard, although Adobe wants us to believe that.
They call their Fogra27 profile Europe ISO coated Fogra27. That's in my
opinion, pure nonsense.
ISO is not a European organization. It's International. Yes, they promote
the metric system too! :-)
So Fogra profiles won't match SWOP or Gracol 6.0. Not exactly.
But I know that some printers in the US make separations based on ISOcoated
and love the results.
Even when printed by American printers.
They match the proof. A proof based on the output intent ISOcoated!
Roger, American and Japanese and Chinese and Brazilian and Canadian
printers have to find ways to agree on one set of international standards
for each relevant combination of process and papergroup.
So, follow carefully what Gracol tries to establish with 7.0.
They claim that it will match ISO 2846-1 and most of the components of ISO
12647-2:2004.
It's important to find out what is needed to modify Gracol and ISO to get
one great set of standards.
I hope,
Henk Gianotten
