Hi fellow listmembers,
A customer of mine has been using (and very pleased with) an old
Scitex SmarTwo scanner until now. It's finally dead after more than 12
years of service.
While it was 12 years old, it was of very high quality and resolution.
His needs are basically up to 6x9 cms; the occasional 9x12 (4x5") he
could scan outside.
Now the choices he has (budget limited to $2000 at most, ideally $1000-1500):
1) buy a used scanner; maybe another Scitex (340 or 342), or even a
drum one (Howtek 4500, Crosfield 240, etc). Shipping costs (to Peru!)
if too bulky or heavy will affect a lot, and he's never used a drum
scanner before.
2) dedicated med-format film scanner: Nikon 9000, Minolta Dimage Multi
Pro, Microtek Artixscan 120tf (previously Polaroid)... any others
under $2k ? which is people's favorite? Is the Dimage Multi Pro still
around, or discontinued?
3) high-res flatbed scanner: Epson, Canon, Microtek... any of these is
a worthy contender?
I'd appreciate opinions... also horror stories, which if constant and
common mark a trend.
In general, has desktop technology evolved that much so that these
"under $2k" scanners will be as good as (or better?) than a Scitex
Smart?
thanks,
