AbsCol is the only logical way to go -- no one on this List will dispute
that.

You have to ask yourself is the profile really telling you the truth?

Could there be any influence of D65 coming in to play here? Did you
converted the Lab colors to AdobeRGB by any chance? If you try converting to
a D50-based RGB profile from Lab, like to ProPhoto or eci-RGB or BetaRGB,
and then print with AbsCol, you should obtain neutral grays in the six gray
patches.
