Subject: New Scanner Profiling Tool
Hi List People!
The main knock on color management has always been the
complexity of the process and the time it takes to
figure it out.
In my opinion, one of the biggest stumbling blocks to
good color reproduction has been the initial step of
converting physical items (photos, etc) to digital.
Scanners and cameras do not see color the same as the
human eye. Consequently, there are millions of images
floating around that are digitally color incorrect
which display and print with lousy color. With that in
mind, I set out to design a product that clearly,
simply explains how to make a properly profiled scan.
Back in the eighties (pre-digital days) we color techs
set up scanners manually using the scanner controls
and color charts. By combining this basic set up
method with spectral color measurements and a custom
color chart, I designed a "by the numbers" scanner set
up product for non-color experts.
What is unique about the ZBetterscan Method is that I
included a concept that eludes most scanner and
software manufacturers: a clearly written manual. My
manual explains how to set up any scanner from scratch
and program the scanner's color controls (based on
Adobe RGB numbers) for color matching scans. Adobe
Photoshop works the best with this method but any
software and interface will work...on any scanner.
Photoshop and Silverfast users end up with scans
embedded with Adobe RGB.
This new scanning package does not require any color
management knowledge to use. Just follow the
illustrated, step-by-step directions. (Lousy manuals
are a pet peeve of mine) Now you can just drive
without knowing about the mechanics of your vehicle.
Also, unlike other scanning softwares, ZBetterscan
Method is not based on using inaccurate visual
feedback from the monitor since most novice users do
not have profiled monitors for true color feedback. (I
will be supplying a URL to a web page comparing
Zbetterscan Method color quality to the popular
scanning softwares)
An extra bonus is an 80 page PDF I wrote called
"Scanning for a Color Match" that explains the basic
problems of color reproduction. Tips on setting up
scanners, monitors and printers are given as well. The
PDF is designed for schools and users who want to know
more about achieving better color reproductions with a
minimum of theory.
As the sole proprietor of this product, I do not have
the marketing budget of an Adobe or Microsoft. At this
point I would appreciate anyone who would like to
evaluate this method for magazine review, course use
or my marketing. (email@hidden) Better yet,
those who would like to buy it can go to the website
at www.ZBetterscan.com It is priced at only $45!...the
lowest priced scanner profiling method on the market
that includes a color chart and manual designed for
non-color experts.
