Gariba,
My drum scanner is an Aztek Premier 8000, with Aztek Digital PhotoLab
(a.k.a. DPL) Pro software. Profiled using HCT targets and Gretag Macbeth
ProfileMaker Pro. But I also believe that my Imacon exceeds Adobe RGB. So
my point was really that scanners, in general, have color spaces which are
larger in some areas than Adobe RGB.
The larger scanner color space (which is actually the larger film color
space) is, in fact, why Joseph Holmes invented Ektachrome Space and
EktaSpace. They were designed to enclose the gamut of a Kodak IT8 target.
I believe he was using a Tango at the time. The HCT targets have more
saturated colors than the Kodak target and produce profiles very slightly
larger than EktaSpace in a couple of places. Converting to Ektachrome Space
after scanner results in a minimal amount of clipping. If you desire no
clipping, then ProPhoto or something else is probably more appropriate.
