"Fierce opponent" is a bit strong. Once I got rid of the pink cast on
the EIZO CG21 by using BasICColor with the OPTIX, I found that it
came very close to the Artisan. The uniformity wasn't quite as good,
and the contrast ratio was smaller, but it's a very servicable
display.
The contrast ratio on this display isn't huge-about 400:1-but the
fact that the absolute luminance is so much higher makes the apparent
contrast greater than the Artisan at 500:1. Black luminance is around
.5 cd/m2 with white at 200cd/m2. The grayscale tracking is as good as
anything else I've seen. I don't have any data on the individual
spectra of the LEDs, sorry.
I need to see a production unit before I could write a review-I'm
using a hand-built prototype-and I'm in the middle of travel season
so no reviews are imminent, but I'm a pretty happy camper.

Hi Bruce
Glad you already use one, it´s really a joy to look at this monitor.
I saw it at colorsolutions who helped develloping the calibration stuff.
The statement of NEC to deliver more than 100 % of Adobe RGB Gamut seems
absolutely realistic to me, I never saw such saturated colors WITH steppings
on a monitor before.
What you mention about showing up flaws in profiles seems very true to me,
this will
shift the whole industry a good step further demanding more and reliable
tools for calibration.
A good day for colormanagement !
So lets cheer up with a good glass of Macallen - thanks NEC !
But there is even more- competition is alive and kicking !
Has anybody already seen the SED´s (Surface-conduction Electron-emitter
Display) of Toshiba and Canon ?
This will be a lower cost and quality alternative as soon as there will be
volumes.
The technology is just shown as Prototypes for HDTV Television displays now
with 50 " on IFA in Berlin
I personally think this will be the commercial breakthrough of high quality
displays.
