Silta,

I can send you sample ACD profiles offlist as I am sure some others can do
too on this list.

Gamut alone is only part of the picture. Yes, the absolute location of the
primaries on a chromaticity chart says a lot about the capability of a
monitor to display a large range of colors. But there's also the viewing
angle dependency which becomes important when more than one person looks at
the screen and want to be sure they are getting the same stimulation fro the
monitor, or just to account for the deviation of the observer from being in
the main axis of the monitor. Most cheap LCDs don't have extra features
built-in to compensate for vieing angle. There is also the screen uniformity
which is extremely important. When doing side by side color editing in
Photoshop, you need to be sure that the difference that you see between two
images does not come from the monitor poor uneveness as opposed from coming
from the actual edits. Otherwise, well, you can't work. There is also the
sharpness of the screen image itself for which LCDs are well known for.
There is also the monitor hardware controls which are very important (there
are not of those on an ACD) : the more = the better the monitor can be
calibrated. Otherwise, it's all done in software and that is far from ideal.
The better monitors these days all have extensive controls for white point
adjustment and internal gamma adjustment, independent of the host computer.
