I apologize for not being very clear when I said that Apple cranks out
updates. I meant updates like, 10.2, 10.3, etc. - main OS upgrades with new
capabilities, functionality, etc. I was not referring to bug patches,
security hold patches, etc. In my experience, the undesirable 'updates' that
people (not just the Apple community) bad-mouth are the latter and the much
more prevalent on the Windows platform.
Testing MS patches before corporate deployment each Tuesday of the month can
get time-consuming, which is not desirable, but not doing so and leaving
potentially huge vulnerabilities in the network infrastructure is much less
desirable. If I can be so bold, that is a situation I do not have to deal
with on the Mac. I am not looking for a platform battle, just trying to
state my experience as objectively as I can.
In regards to the MS Vista WCS idea. My concern is that the 'dangerous' part
of such a system is that being proprietary and yet able to be deployed in a
monopolistic scale, its acceptance in the market will leave non-MS OS users
out in the cold in terms of color mgmt with little hope of getting warm.
This is probably an unrealistic fear, but it is a concern with anything that
comes from MS that intends to replace an 'open' idea.
