Microsoft CMS vs. ICC CMS
Our current world is driven by economics.
Where there is a common standard way of exchanging information and files
there is no proprietary intellectual property. If there is no IP
protection there is no way for a company to extract value for their work.
Currently there is no way for Apple, Adobe, or anybody else to extract
value from ICC standards.
If Microsoft can put out a proprietary CMS and get more market share
then they have a way of extracting value to pay for there investment in
this technology.
Other companies are not going to put money into ICC, because it does not
differentiate them from others in a way that will extract value for
their company and shareholders.
If ICC had come out with a outstanding technology standard that everyone
had to adopt in order to play, then, everyone would have had to invest.
Since it was not outstanding or dominate, we will have to pay the price.
I am a fan of the ICC. When I worked in the industry I worked for the
adoption of ICC standards. However, it is not end user friendly. It
has not allowed companies who supported it to get a good return for
their investment. This has left us all wide open to someone coming up
with a closed proprietary solution.
