I think you chose a bad example when you mentioned 'weights and measures'.
There have been Internationals Standards for those for many years which
almost all countries in the world have adopted - except USA.
Then you agree that it would be better if we had. At least we have our own
standards in that regard. This industry of ours has few if any. Given the
current hands off policy, the US government is incapable of establishing
standards let alone enforcing them. The metric system was adopted by
Congress a long time ago, yet we don't use it. Reagan stopped it dead in
it's tracks as I recall. It makes us less competitive in the end.
