Ernst:
I sit forever at your lotus feet.
I think what you've said speaks volumes, and in 5 or 8
years, we'll all be seeing something quite different,
ICC profiles, or MS standardized colour standards...
perhaps even global ones. To me your ideas are exactly
current.
However, this is a personal rant, and a long one. Feel
free to not read it if you choose, and this means all
of you.
The reason I chose to do this now is the thread at
hand... Microsoft vs. ICC, etc. A small reason I
admit, but here I go.
My message may be snipped and not presented. If so,
I'm not offended at all. I realize it's very much OT.
Here we go:
I just hope it somehow recognizes the simple fact that
the natural world, that is, our planet and our 10 (or
more) million species of living things are going to
shite. At this rate, by 2100, none will be left other
than a bunch of angry humans, rats, crows, seagulls,
mice, dogs, cats, and cockroaches, and a whole bunch
of different species of flies.
20-30,000 species are being lost per year starting 15
years ago... and these numbers are growing. Each and
every one of these single entities is my saddest loss
and biggest issue in spite of global self-centred lack
of concern and/or simple ignorance. I'm not alone with
this concern.
When Microsoft plugs a serious percentage of its
profits into global concerns, not just drilling water
wells for a another group of desperate humans via a
foundation run by Bill's wife, but actually starts to
concern itself with reducing human procreation to
close to zero and works to stop and reverse natural
habitat loss, and hence, the degradation of our little
planet, maybe something good will happen.
And perhaps, after this kind of HUGE change, we'll end
up becoming a big happy planet with perhaps 3-400
million max humans with a huge bunch of natural
reserves all over the place, that allow the rest of
the living entities wherever to continue to live on,
hopefully forever... and this would be a wonderful
planet, or at least it could be.
(... and in the process we could actually become the
aware and beautiful human beings we know we can be.)
It'd be paradise for everyone... absolutely a wondrous
place to live for a small number of aware people on
this little planet... and it can be actually, but who
or what can make it happen? Is it actually possible
for such a state of affairs to exist?
I'll be long dead, but I want to put this in writing
before I croak, angry and frustrated. Obvious right?
I know Bill and his wife are drilling wells for
thirsty and hungry humans, but this has nothing to do
with the plight of the planet at large. In fact,
nothing at all. The ultimate issue(s) aren't being
addressed here in any feasible way at all... It's all
empty kaakaa.
It may be odd as hell to think that MS has any play in
this, but if anyone does, they do, mostly because
anyone with a brain in the world not only knows what
MS is doing, but they're intimately connected to it...
journalists, politicians, lobbyists, activists,
scientists, and even, yep, religious leaders... of
course there are billions of others also completely
involved in what MS is doing with its OS, and so the
connected world goes.
Isn't this simple? It should be. Anyone that can type,
read, write, etc. are probably the people that run the
world, control the governments, the markets, etc.
True enough right?
Every single one of the 270 plus countries/states in
the world are absolutely running MS software, every
bleeding one of them, including Mali, Rwanda,
Azerbaijan, Uganda, Ivory Coast, Surinam, Algeria,
Liberia, Laos, Vietnam, Belize, Yemen, Faroe Islands,
Malaysia, Georgia, Indonesia, Madagascar, India,
Nicaragua, Ecuador, Sudan, UAE, Croatia, Guatemala,
Turkey, Iraq, Estonia, Latvia, Nepal, Nauru, Jamaica,
and the 2 Congos...
Perhaps this is just a dirge on my own sadness about
the state of the world, and the fact that it all is
getting worse and worse, but I don't think so.
If everyone on the planet had a computer and could
type and write in, let's say English... and they were
all connected to each other, everything would be
different wouldn't it?
This would probably mean that every person in every
village in Africa, all 7 or 800 million of them could
tell us all about themselves. Can you imagine how this
kind of thing might change your and my attitude about
the world in general? What about Bolton and Wolfowitz?
What about RIce and Bush? What about everyone
everywhere?
What about the same regarding all the poorest people
in SA, some with 12 children trying to grow corn in
the oddest of places mostly thanks to big bucks
corporations going in and capitalizing on their
natural resources in spite of every "peasant" in
whatever country simply being not considered part of
the issue?
**Of course many say that poor people create more
children because they need more workers... I'm willing
to talk to anyone about this one, but offlist.**
This might help us realize there are not only not
enough resources, or that there are too many humans,
but that there are all kinds of people living on the
backs of cheap labour, and at the expense of natural
habitats all over the world.
It's all pathetic isn't it?
Can any of you imagine what absolute global
communication by every person on the planet from every
little plot of land everywhere, and speaking the same
language would look like?
This new consciousness would, undoubtedly, cause
governments everywhere to realize they're being looked
at and they better do something about their obvious
crapola, and, of course, they might just do the right
thing don't you think?
Global... A global attitude. Simple right? Not at all.
But if it happened, everything would stop in one
sense, and start in another.
Oddly enough, we're all in this together, and perhaps
this is the crux of what most can't come to realize
and accept, but I continue to hope.
Ray
