Actually, no. If it is saved as a 12 bit file, PS (in my experience) will
not open it. If the scanner software saves it as 16 bit, then PS will open
it as 16 bit.
There has been a (overly) long discussion of this on the Hi-end scanner
list.
What scanner software are you using that saves as 12 bits?
