It uses the second link in dual-link DVI to carry the extra 2 bits per
color. With DVI you can use the second link to carry more video data,
enabling higher resolutions, higher refresh rates, or a higher bit depth.
It's still just one video cable, but with dual-link all of the data pins on
the connector are used. The display informs the video card what it is
capable of and its then up the video card to decide if it can support this.
Now it's up to the OS and video card guys to get their side of the equation
done to support this. Hopefully one day the Displays control panel will
list "Billions" of colors as well as 'just' "Millions" :-)
