> One thing perplexes me, though. On the same URL, they write that "this RIP
also supports Professional Color Management Technology, including separate
Input ICC profiles for RGB, CMYK, and Grayscale images. Other features of
this RIP include Ink Limiting Technology with CMYK curve adjustments for
each ink channel, built-in Printer Linearization Technology compatible with
many third-party spectrophotometer devices."
That sounds like the full version. What is the story here?>
The Pro version bundled with the Epson 4000/4800 (and the Colorburst LE, which is identical) does indeed have these features…ink limiting, linearization, ability to define input and simulation profiles, ect. They DO NOT allow for custom printer profiles though, as you mentioned. My experience with the Rip at this level has been less than satisfactory color wise. If you need critical color accuracy, you need to look at something else… X-Proof perhaps. I would recommend that if someone wanted to go with this Rip anyway, that they get the LE version and the non-Pro 4000/4800, which allows you to upgrade to the X-Proof version without buying a new Rip outright. You can’t upgrade the Rip that comes bundled with the printer.
