Faro,
Realize that you are profiling a system; the system is comprised of
the printer, the photo-sensitive media and the photo processor. Find
out if there's more than one processor in use.
- Check that the processor is in control. Don't assume it is; you
have to check. If you're not familiar with process control charts,
ask for help from a representative of the paper or chemical
manufacturer.
- Linearize the photo-sensitive material using the printer's
software. The media manufacturer's representative may have aim values
that will help establish optimum settings for the material to be
profiled. The lab's techs should handle the linearizing for you. It's
standard operating procedure.
- From there on, it's pretty much straightforward profiling procedure
for an RGB device. I usually read 1200 to 1500 patches, tabloid size,
on a DTP-41. It's likely that the resulting profile is OK for glossy
or matte papers from the same manufacturer.
