Hi Ray,
Thanks for the contribution.
> You don't mention proofs or a printer.
That is true, I did not mention proofs but I did refer to inkjet printers
without being specific. My client has Epson 1200's in all their offices
set up with a common output profile but I suspect (know) that the
new OSX RIP's will not support such old printers.
I would think that once a RIP has been decided upon then suitable
ink jet printers will have to be purchased.
> You only mention pdf's.
All designs are converted to pdf in the Melbourne HO. The distributed for
printing from exactly the same printers (Epson 1200) situated in each of
their other offices. This way the head office keeps control of output quality.
> If this is really all you need I would suggest that they purchase Adobe
Creative Suite 2.
They will be & have been using Illustrator & PS but have no need for InD or
Acrobat.
They have Acrobat Reader on the Mac's in the other offices and print
the pdf's that have been sent from head office.
If I interpret you correctly, then all I need to do is profile the new
printers, as RGB devices. The designer will then have to embed the
RGB output profile in the pdf prior to distribution.
>From memory, I think they designed in CMYK which necessitated the RIP.
I am not at all familiar with Illustrator but I was under the impression that
the Pantone swatches within AI are CMYK. If so, I thought I would need to
print through a RIP for colour accuracy. Is that your understanding?

I am familiar with that. What is needed is for the pdf's to be able to be printed
on multiple ink jets, in multiple cities and the prints to match.
Thanks again.
Regards
Richard
