HP are employing a very innovative new way of error checking in the B9180
pigment print heads. As I understand it , (white papers being written
currently), there are charged ions in the polymer encapsulation of the
pigments. The charge is measured on droplet projection and if the charge
value drops between a certain limit a head servicing is scheduled ( a
variable cleaning level depending on probable image quality loss due to
clogging). I also believe that this technology can even remap clogged cells
to a much higher degree than ever before which is also a first.
Clogs will be not only reduced to near zero but also efficient constant
checking should provide effective or rather preventive measures against
banding.
Pretty neat stuff , even if I may have badly stated the method.
