While we’re on the subject, what is the gamt tag
indicating when it shows an 8-bit PCS to gamut check table vs a 16-bit PCS to
gamut check table. I’ve never understood this tag or its purpose. For
instance, I create a Monaco
profile and select 16-bit within the software. All the A2B/B2A tables indicate
16-bit, but the gamt tag reads 8-bit. Using the same data to generate a profile
out of ProfileMaker yields a 16-bit PCS to gamut check table in the gamt tag. I’m
assuming that the Monaco
profile is indeed 16-bit for PCS-Device/Device-PCS calculations, and that Monaco simply
has chosen to utilize 8-bit for the gamt tag, but what’s up with that tag
anyway?
