The table data in an ICC profile can either be 8 bit or 16 bit,
so you either get 1 part in 256 or 1 part in 65536 precision
in how the color values are specified within the profile.
If your PCS is XYZ, then 8 bit is pretty useless (and technically
non-standard), since the XYZ is highly non perceptually uniform.
If the PCS is L*a*b*, then 8 bits may give acceptable results
in some circumstances, since the worst case quantization
error will be 0.75 delta E (for the A2B table),
but for high quality, 16 bit with PCS XYZ or L*a*b* is
recommended (unless profile size is an overriding factor).
