Michael - Should be relatively straightforward. The only trick is determining your scanners ideal response curve, locking it down, then assigning the resulting profile in Photoshop (if your scanner software isn't ICC compliant). Check Don's excellent white paper on RGB scanning for color management:
For me, using the HCT yielded an excellent profile, yielding much better scans right out of the scanner. You may still find some images require further correction, but this is more fine tuning at this stage than anything else.
