After much searching of this list's archives, and other Web
resources, I'm not getting an exact answer to the following
question: Is it ok to profile an lcd monitor with a luminance of
178, when the standard is 140? Using Eye-One Photo with Match 3.6,
I achieve 178 only by reducing the monitor's OSD brightness to 0;
otherwise, the monitor's luminance reading comes in at over 280.
Since the monitor is connected to my G5 thru DVI, there is no
contrast control.
I have a Dell 20inch monitor in a dual monitor setup along side a
20inch iMac. I use and EyeOne Photo as you're doing. I've
experienced the same thing... turn the Dell down as far as it will go
and its still pretty darn bright. My solution is to turn it down as
far as it will go and the run through the profiling process leaving
the Luminance option at "unchanged" or whatever EyeOne Match calls
it. In other words it doesn't ask me to alter the luminance during
profiling. It just accepts the current setting. After the profile
is built I make note of what the resulting luminance is (about 160 in
my case). I then use that as the target for calibrating the iMac
display. The result is that the two displays match quite well.
