Lossless compression

I have been waiting for years for JPEG2000 to become useful - for instance,
supported natively by browsers as JPEG and GIF are. It doesn't seem to be
happening.

Here is an interesting experiment I tried. Using the "lossless" setting for
JPEG2000, and then the zip compression for TIFF (which is lossless but slow
to write), the file sizes were nearly equal! Tiff with zip compression works
quite well.
