It's a bug in Photoshop CS2, which has not yet been fixed by Adobe.
I assume that what you are trying to do is fill the document or a selection
with the color in the picker (either Shift-Delete, then choose Foregrond
Color at 100% Normal; or Option Delete, with or without a selection active).
CS was fine, but with CS2 something happened, and now, when one enters Lab
values into a Lab file, the values in the Color Picker often differ from
those that end up in the file. The differences are small, but still the
numbers don't match.
But there are a few ways to fix it:
1) If you fill a *floating* layer, the Lab values will be correct, whereas
if you fill the Background layer (either in a flat file or in one with other
layers) the values come out wrong. So, make sure that you are filling a
floating layer.
2) Create a Solid Color Fill Layer (Layer -> New Fill Layer -> Solid Color),
and fill it with the color in the picker. The values will be correct.
I do not know the reasons for this behavior. I just know that these two
fixes have worked for me so far, but please try them on your system to see
if they work for you too.
Until Adobe graces us with a bug fix at long last, these workarounds will
have to do.
Good luck.
