- Thread-topic: Konica/ Minolta Pro C500 printer/Fiery X3E color rip
I've worked with a Fiery S300 and 500 at a shop here in Seattle. We had the
damnedest time with the Fiery and any sort of color consistency. The
calibration scheme was horrible. We finally replaced it with a Creo front
end Konica has (IP-301 I think it is) and it was beautiful. How well it will
match the Epson, I can't say for sure. But what I can say is that even with
the spectro option (Graphic Arts Kit) for the Fiery color consistency and
stability was non-existent. We had Konica out all the time to work on the
color problems we were having with it. The C-500 is not a bad device, it's a
pretty rugged little bugger that can take a lot of environmental
fluctuations and is pretty tough mechanically. Not the swiftest of devices,
but reliable enough for light/medium production. If your client can't the
Creo unit (or even a demo one for a week or so) then strongly suggest that
they get the Graphic Arts Kit which is about $5,000. They'll just have to
really stay on top of it.
