As much as I agree with the need to put some order in this naming mess, none
of this is going to work until there is a central repository to which all
interested parties can refer for naming conventions.
If there were such a thing, then a clear naming convention could be applied
industry-wide, using 1- or 2-letter abbreviations placed in a precise
location within the name string, preceded by, say, an underscore. So, this
way, ISO 12647-2 could be "I2", FOGRA39 could be "F9", SWOP could be "S",
etc.
Once the conventions are established, there is no need to use long names, as
Klaus demonstrates with the example of his own company's naming structure.
Problem is: who is going to be the rule-maker, and how can the naming
conventions become both widespread and enforced?
