Sorry for chiming in to this query late -
RIT is in New York, but not in the New York City area (if you
consider a 6 hour drive to be out of area). But, we do offer a
10 week ONLINE graduate course taught by me called "Color
Systems."
Color Systems covers color management from the inside out.
At the end of 10 weeks, you will have written in the programing
language of your choice an ICC profile parser, a low-functioning ICC
profile builder and a limited ICC CMM. You will also participate
in other projects and presentations. We go over ICC's pro's,
cons and limitations with an eye toward what would be better.
Some of the students who have gone through the course have taken
their projects to great heights - a good example being what has become
the current ICC research implementation CMM (see
http://www.color.org/WP18-IccProfLibNotes.pdf).
The course is rigorous, time consuming and only for people with
backgrounds in both programming and colorimetry. Although it is
a graduate course designed for students in the Color Science and
Imaging Science masters programs, we do get non-matriculated students
from all over the world. It's great fun but exhausting.
Spring registration has started. The quarter runs from
mid-March to the end of May.
Contact me or RIT for more information.
