Jouni,
Thanks for posting about using the iO to profile fabrics.
I have been using my iOne to create profile fabrics in the
"spot/patch-reading" mode. Even the smoothest cottons (sateens and lawns)
create too many measurement errors in the strip-mode. GMB confirmed this.
Ever since the iO's introduction, I have been waiting to hear about its
real-life performance profiling textiles. Profiling with the iOne in patch
mode is very time-consuming (2 hours+ per profile). I hope to speed this up
and save my fingers.
It sounds as though the iO's "spot/patch reading mode" is perhaps not quite
ready for prime time. I may want to wait until this utility is fully
supported: the majority of my inkjet printing is on fabric.
I've always thought that a wide-aperture Spectrolino/Spectroscan would be a
more appropriate instrument for textile profiling, but it is very expensive
(and it requires a serial connection).

Michael,
I have GMB iO and I use it to read charts from different types of fabrics.
First reading from fabric was more or less impossible as every time iO
cancelled reading due to measurement errors. So, I contacted GMB directly
regarding this problem and send them few samples of the fabrics.
In one week they came up with "temporary" solution, a piece of software
called "iOSpottool.exe" that is not officially supported yet, but they
promised to implement the thing in ProfileMaker Measuretool in future. That
utility makes iO to work similar way as Spectrolino/scan. Measurement,
movement to next patch, measurement etc.. Works great!
But in case you need that utility, you better contact GMB by yourself..
Regards,
Jouni Mustonen
