I suspect a strategic mixture might be an improvement. In terms of
getting good looking results from typical verification charts,
it's wise to chose some points specifically (e.g. 0, 25, 75 & 100%
tints of CMYK etc.) on test charts for input devices. The bulk of
the test squares (I'm reasonably sure) are set out in a regular grid,
and a regular grid is an inefficient packing of 3D space. A tetrahedral
based packing (say body centered cubic) would improve the charts efficiency.
