Hello Marco!

I'm also using ProfileMaker and I need the prelinearisation from time to
time. I found a quite simple but correct way to make a prelin in
ProfileMaker. I'm using it in low quality solvent LFP systems which has no
linearisation features available.
First of all, you need to find ink limits per channel. Let's say you find
C70, M80, Y60, K80.
Then you need to make a decision about dot gain. You need to measure it.
Lets say you have DG=30% at 50% but you want it to be DG2=10%.
Then you just open TIFF testform in Adobe Photoshop and apply different
curves to different channels. C100->C70, C50->C(35-(35/50)*(DG-DG2)),
M100->M80... And so on. You can calsulate as many points on the curve as you
want. I'm usualy using only two points. But don't forget to wrie down all
correction points! You will need it further.
After that you need to create ICC profile as usual, then you need to open
ICC profile in ProfileMaker and to add a correction curve to Lab->CMYK
table. It should be the same as you've made in Photoshop. That's all. Then
you can use this profile as usual.
PS: If you need to make a prelin for RGB profile, the order is almost the
same, but you need to calculate dot gain for R, G and B.
PPS: the other way to make a prelin is to create custom testform in Excel,
but you need to have some mathematic skills to create an equation for smooth
curves.
In method described above Adobe Photoshop and ProfileMaker make such
calculations.
