Thanks, Rolf - I suspected this was this was the case, but I didn't want to
ignore any performance avenues. Years ago, I used to do retouching on a
Shima (similar to Quantel). It had ONLY video RAM, 16,000 x 16,000 pixels,
and it was very fast. Also, 3/4 million dollars!

Hi Marc,
that lot of VRAM would only benefit Photoshop if it would use the GPU
(graphics card unit).
I don't even know about any Photoshop plugin that renders on the graphics
card. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong)
Fact is, that using the GPU could easily speed up renderings with a factor
of 4. ATI just released a tool to compute videos using the GPU. NVIDIA has a
sample Photoshop plugin for using the GPU. Adobe Premiere (PC only) uses the
GPU. CoreImage in Apples Tiger uses the GPU, but there is no CoreImage on
PC, so Adobe won't use it.
So the answer is yes if you are doing video work or if you suspect that
things may change soon. Otherwise, the answer is no.
Regards
Rolf
