I think so.

The client is trying to find a way around changing their separations setup,
forcing you to match their proof on press. Typical. In the end, what will be
the results of all this convoluted workflow? If it ends up pleasing the
client then it may be worth it. But it is more likely that it will NOT, at
least not to the client satisfaction, and the client will blame it on your
(not you personally) technical incompetence, somehow, and will drag you into
endless tests until, until he's fed up and threatens to switch to another
printer. Doomsday scenario. You need to gain credibility with your
management and not let this situation develop furhter.
Is your management open to the idea of sending you to this client to set
their printers up for proofing with your press profiles?

This is the not so nice side of color management.
