A couple of different things could be at work. A satin finish is due to
a bit of chaos in the reflection path -- this also leads to lighter
blacks and a reduced gamut.
Also, if the composition of the films is different, you could have
different amounts of UV blocked, which would shift final apparent color
after management if your path is not protected from fluorescence. If
you measure using a UV filtered light source, you shouldn't receive to
much error from fluorescence. Gretag's profile making software claims
to get rid of the effect using software, and Monaco's does not. I have
used both and don't see a huge difference. Best way to tell is to look
at the unprinted, measured patch of your test chart and see if you have
a lot of blue -- varying amounts of blue in your test patches indicate
you could be suffering from UV exposure...
We evaluated films and dropped them because they dimmed the gamut too
much and made everything feel like a placemat. Also, peeling and
applying large plastic films in manufacturing generates a lot of static
charge, which attracts a lot of dirt, which gets under the film and
makes my yield plummet. Then I have cost accountants angry with me, and
that's never handy.
