Hi Marco,

I have taken a quick look at the specs of the four displays:

Viewing angle:

     145° Vert., 160° Hor. (75U/70D/80L/80R) (CR>5)
                                             ^^^^^^

That does mean that such a display is pretty useless for color work.
As a rule of thumb I suggest only to consider displays with a viewing
angle of at least 170° specified at a a contrast ratio of 10 [1].

That does not mean that all >170° displays are a good choice for color
critical work, but I have never seen a display with less then 170°
which was even worth considering.

Please be aware that the viewing angle specified in a brochure does
only give a rough idea about the color shift of a display. There are
displays with a quoted viewing angle of 178° which have a color shift
which is worse compared to a specific display with a specified viewing
angle of 170°. The best viewing angle I know is in the current 21"
Hitachi panels, used in the Quato Intelli Proof 213 and Eizo CG210.
The NEC 2180 (= LaCie 321) have a good viewing angle too, but are --
especially in a darker environment -- more prone to color shifts.

Do yourself a favour and explain and demonstrate to your clients that
an investion in a good calibrated display is well worth the money --
it pays for itself very soon.

With kind regards
Peter Karp

A viewing angle specified for a CR of 5 or 2 (like I have seen these
days) is pretty pointless.
