Greetings,
Thank you to all that gave me feedback on my original challenge. Especially to Roger.
We have decided to go back to the press (narrow web flexo) and run a new target. The first target we ran was the ECI2002
for the DTP41 which I split over 4 sets of plates so it would fit the press web. Roger suggested using the ECI2002R so we
can fit the target on one set of plates. I am going to follow that advice but will be forced to read it with my i1, which took
me a little less than 2 hours to read a test copy of that target printed on the Epson 4000.
I am thinking about using Measure Tool to make a custom target that I can use with the DTP41 so averaging will not wear
out my wrist. If I understand correctly what I have read, I do not necessary need a lot of patches (like the 1485 on the
ECI2002) to properly profile a linear device like a printing press.
I have made a custom targets which contains 550 patches and will fit the format I need for the press. My questions:
1 - The patches created appear to adequately cover highlight, midtone and shadow values but some of the values created
are not whole numbers. It appears all supplied targets (IT8, ECI, etc) only have whole percentage numbers. Will these not
whole numbers (45.63, 1.75, etc) effect the profile adversely?
2 - If the 550 patches cover adequately the highlight, midtone and shadow areas is that enough patches?
3 - Looking at the reference files that are supplied with the supplied targets (IT8, ECI, etc) it appears that their TIL, GCR or
UCR, black start point and black width are the same as the standard Inkjet settings that are selected when making a profile
(I am using PM 5.0.5b): TIL 400, GCR3, Black Start 40 and black width 1. Should I follow this lead or change settings if I am
later going to create a Profile using, let's say, UCR instead of GCR3?
4. If I know my TIL on the press is 74% CMY and 100% black should I set that as the TIL when I create the custom target?
5 - How do the settings used to make the target effect a profile if the settings to make the profile are different?
Thanks to all that respond. This will be cross posted to other digests.
-Bill-
