I see your questionaire and am in the middle of the Pantone
Accreditation.
I dont think we need much more debate - just understand the real issues.
Our International clients want consistancy around the world not waffle.and as
printers we can only really control the dot that goes on the paper and the
amount of ink we put on the sheet. There are three driving forces
Using the right profile is (SWOP or ISO coated) ,Pantone CMYK colours and
neutral greys
The Key has to be
1) LAB standards for process colours - forget densities
2) regardless what screen is used a standard has to be set for the dot gain
on the printed sheet - its the only way that we can print Pantone CMYK colours.
Pantone seem to have a set which works - I am running Staccatto from Creo
3) WE have to have a standard for proofs - I am using ISO Coated
- it is pointless matching presses to proofs
4) Grey balance is important but if the above is followed then 25/19/19 -
50/40/40 works
5) The US should use Euro inks (:-)
6) it would really help in Europe if DTP software did not have SWOP as
default it really causes problems
Peter
WE do really need to discuss this - IPEX is in April a meeting in
Birmingham UK would be good
