Regarding Spyder comments. Are those making less than positive comments
sure they have experience with latest versions? Things have certainly
improved considerably. Also, I find the Spyder2PRO 2.0 gives actually
better results here than say, the i1 Photo, which I also have. These
things are sometimes hard to qualify, but for example, the neutral ramp
is cleaner and soft proofing closer to print.
The complaint comes from a company that produces its own monitor calibration software, so the question isn't how Spyder2PRO software and Spyder2 function together, but how the Spyder2 would function with their third-party software. And since ColorVision has not supplied the necessary SDK to the company to even test the Spyder2 with their products, it would be somewhat difficult to say; they may use methods quite different than the ColorVision software you are saying works well for you.
At this point its difficult to even determine which software product they would be discussing, as they no longer have distribution rights for the previous product (those who do have ongoing control of that product have indeed obtained the rights and the SDK to utilize the Spyder2 with the next version), and appear to be developing a replacement monitor calibration product from scratch.
I have not encountered Markus at ColorSolutions.de in the past, nor have I encountered this particular attitude from the company, so I won't assume its company policy until I hear if from Karl Koch.
